Broken Link Checker Ultimate is a Chrome extension that checks whether the links on a web page or website still work. This policy explains exactly what it does and does not collect.

The short version

The pages you scan, the links found on them and the results stay on your computer. They are never sent to us. The only thing we store is your email address, and only if you create an account.

What we collect

Your email address, and only when you create an account or sign in. We use it to:

sign you in,
link your Pro subscription to your account so your paid features work on any computer you sign in on.

Google Search Console data, only if you choose to connect it. Connecting is entirely optional, off by default, and the extension works fully without it. If you connect it:

We ask Google only for read-only access to Search Console (webmasters.readonly), plus your Google account's email address so we can show you which account is linked.
Google gives us a token, which is stored on our server, never inside the extension. It is not readable by the extension or by anyone else using it.
We use it only to show how much search traffic your pages receive alongside your own scan results, and to list pages Google has indexed so you can check them.
You can unlink at any time from the extension's Integrations tab, or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Unlinking revokes the token at Google and deletes our copy.

Apart from your email address and, if you connect it, the Search Console data described above, we collect no personal information. We do not ask for your name, address or payment card.

Your payment details are never seen by us. Payments are handled by Freemius, our payment processor. Card details go to Freemius and never reach this extension or our servers. See the Freemius Privacy Policy.

What we do not collect

We do not collect, transmit, store or sell any of the following:

the addresses of pages you visit or scan,
the content of any page,
your browsing history,
your scan results, reports or exported files,
analytics or usage tracking of any kind. The extension contains no analytics or telemetry code.

If you connect Google Search Console, the metrics Google returns for your own verified properties are fetched to display beside your results. They are not shared with anyone, not used to build a profile, and not used for advertising.

If you press a page speed button, the address of that page is sent to Google's public PageSpeed Insights API so Google can measure it and return its Core Web Vitals. Only the pages you choose to measure are sent, nothing is sent automatically, and the request carries no information about you.

Where your scan data lives

Everything the extension produces stays in your browser's local storage on your own computer:

scan results and reports,
your scan history,
your settings and ignore rules,
a temporary cache of link results, kept for up to six hours to avoid re-checking the same link.

You can delete all of it at any time by removing the extension, or by clearing the history and cache from the extension's Settings page. Exported CSV, JSON, HTML and PDF reports are saved directly to your computer and are not uploaded anywhere.

Network requests the extension makes

To tell you whether a link works, the extension has to request that link's address, exactly as your browser would if you clicked it. These requests go directly from your browser to the website that owns the link. They do not pass through our servers, and we never see which links you check.

The extension also contacts:

Google Firebase, for sign-in and to store your account record (your email and whether you have Pro),
Freemius, only when you choose to upgrade, to open the checkout page.

No other servers are contacted.

Permissions and why they are needed

Permission	Why
Access to websites you scan	To request each link's address and see whether it loads. Chrome asks your permission the first time you run a scan, not at install.
Storage	To save your settings, history and cache on your device.
Scripting and active tab	To read the list of links on the page you chose to scan and to outline broken ones. Nothing runs on any page until you start a scan.
Web request	To record redirect steps, such as 301 then 302 then 200, for the extension's own link checks. It only observes the extension's own requests and never your browsing. It cannot block or change any request.
Alarms	To keep a long scan running and to run scheduled checks at the times you choose.
Notifications	To tell you when a scheduled check finds new broken links.
Context menus	To add the right-click options for checking a link or scanning a page.

Data retention and deletion

Your account record is kept while your account exists. To delete it, email us at the address below and we will remove your account and its record. Local scan data is deleted when you clear it or remove the extension.

If you connected Google Search Console, unlinking revokes our access at Google and deletes the stored token immediately. Search Console metrics are cached in your own browser and are cleared when you unlink or remove the extension.

Children

This extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Limited Use disclosure

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically, Search Console data obtained through Google APIs is used only to provide the features described above, directly to you. It is never transferred to anyone else except as needed to provide those features, never used for advertising, and never read by a human except with your explicit permission, to resolve a support issue you have raised, or where required by law.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
